Karen Albert - Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Headshot of Karen Albert, a psychiatric nurse practitioner providing online medication management in Oregon, Washington, and Maine.

Collaborative, Compassionate Medication Support for Your Mental Health

If you’re here, you might be navigating challenges that feel hard to carry on your own. Whether you’re feeling anxious, low, overwhelmed by stress, or unsure about what’s next, I want you to know this: you deserve care that sees you as a whole person—not just a diagnosis.

My role is to support you in finding clarity, balance, and a treatment plan that works for you. That includes medication management, yes—but also thoughtful conversation, collaboration, and care that respects your story and your goals.

What It’s Like to Work Together

Before becoming a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, I worked in nursing for many years—long enough to know that healing doesn’t come from a quick fix. It comes from being seen, heard, and supported in a way that honors your unique experience. That’s what I aim to offer in every session.

When we meet for your first appointment, we’ll begin with a 90-minute intake assessment. This session is all about you—your concerns, your history, and what you’re hoping to get out of treatment. I’ll ask questions to better understand what’s been going on for you, and I’ll take time to explain your options. If medication seems like a helpful next step, we’ll talk through each possibility together. You’ll never be pressured into a decision or rushed through the process.

After your intake, we’ll schedule regular follow-up appointments—usually every 1 to 3 months, depending on what you need. These check-ins are typically 15 to 30 minutes and give us space to talk about how you’re feeling, how any medications are working for you, and whether we need to make adjustments. This part of care is always personalized. We’ll move at a pace that feels right, and I’ll stay responsive to what works for you.

I also believe strongly in the value of therapy. If that’s something you’re open to, I’ll explain how combining medication with therapy can often offer even more support. And if you’re already working with a therapist, I’ll coordinate care as needed so your team is connected and aligned.

A Thoughtful, Collaborative Approach to Care

You can expect a calm, judgment-free space where you’re treated with kindness and respect. I’ll talk with you—not at you—and make sure you feel comfortable, informed, and supported every step of the way.

My approach to care is grounded in the belief that your voice matters. I’ll always invite your input when making decisions about treatment, and I’ll honor your values, preferences, and lived experience. You deserve a provider who’s invested in your well-being, and I want you to feel that in every interaction we have.

A Bit About Me

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, being outdoors, reading, and prioritizing my own mental health. I believe we all need space to recharge and care for ourselves—and that belief shapes how I approach the work I do with you.

At the heart of everything I do is a simple principle: treat others the way you want to be treated. That means no judgment, no assumptions—just honest, compassionate care with your best interests at the center.

Credentials and Training

I’m a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and also certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner. My training is rooted in holistic, client-centered care—and I bring that perspective into every appointment we share.

Frequently Asked Questions About Our Practice

Sessions are conducted primarily online via telehealth. If you are interested in meeting with a provider in-person, please contact our office at (207) 316-2609 to discuss availability for in-person sessions.

  • I accept Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield (Anthem, Premera, Regence, etc.), and Optum/United Health. However, I may not accept your specific insurance plan. It is your responsibility to verify that our organization is in-network with your plan and that services are covered.

  • If at any time we discover that we are not in-network with your insurance plan, you will be responsible for the full costs of all sessions (past and future).

  • Please note, I do not accept Medicaid, Medicare, or work with EAPs.

  • Services are available to self-pay clients and those with out-of-network benefits.

  • Please call our office at (207) 316-2609 or complete our contact form if you have any questions.

  • For individuals using insurance to cover appointments, the cost of appointments is determined by each insurance’s contracted rates with our organization. Thus, the cost of appointments may be notably different than the cost of appointments for individuals who are self-pay. Furthermore, the cost of appointments may vary from session to session depending on several factors to include the length of the appointment and the complexity of the appointment. If you plan to use insurance, our office can provide a better estimate of costs once you provide your insurance information. Please contact us at (207) 316-2609 if you require further assistance.

  • For individuals who are self-pay:

    • Rates vary depending on type of service (therapy vs. medication management) and length of session. Please contact our office for additional information.

Payments are completed through our patient portal. Payments can be made using major credit/debit cards (American Express, Visa, Mastercard, etc.) as well as FSAs and HSAs.

Our policy is to collect payments before rendering services. However, we cannot always predict the cost of sessions in advance because services and length of sessions may vary from appointment to appointment. For clients using insurance, you will likely be responsible for either a co-pay or for paying the full costs of sessions until your deductible is met. Please ensure you fully understand your insurance benefits to prevent future billing concerns.

Regardless of your insurance status and payment method, we will always be as up-front with you as possible about the cost of treatment.

  • The online scheduler above shows my availability over the next 30 days. If no appointments are available, please check back in a few days.
  • For appointments beyond this 30-day window, you can return closer to your preferred appointment date.

Clients must cancel or reschedule appointments at least 48 hours before their appointment. If appointments are not canceled or rescheduled with at least 48 hours’ notice, or if clients do not show to their appointment, they will be charged a late cancellation fee of $150. To ensure we treat all clients consistently and ethically and to be respectful of our providers’ time, we must enforce our late cancellation and no-show policy. Fees incurred for late cancellations and no shows are out-of-pockets expenses. They cannot be billed to insurance.
